Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

The weekend provides an opportunity to reflect on the close of the first two weeks of this year of Living Kite
Love.  Now is the time when early resolutions can begin to fade.
In the course of evaluating balance, I often feel a need to give myself a light tug, the way I would when, as a child, I was trying to keep a kite afloat in the California wind. The kite would catch those steady winds along the Pacific coast, dancing, diving, soaring. Without an occasional tug to draw in slack, the kite was at risk for tailing down into the ocean. On the other hand, as the wind stiffened, more line needed to be played out lest the panes of the kite fall victim to rips and tears.
How do you make adjustments as you travel your own spiritual journey?…

I am not so good at the balance thing. I know how to push myself both physically and mentally when there is work to be done – I can do this – and I can do it well…up to a point. One thing that is helpful for me in terms of balance is spending time walking and sitting (with my dog) on the farm behind my new/old house (I just moved into the home I grew up in). An hour or two on weekends does a world of good for me in terms of balance. But I admit, when there is work to be done, I can very easily get into those patterns of neglecting the nourishment that keeps one living radical loving care.

I so love your analogy of the kite and the wonderful images that unfurl within as I consider your question of balance and the spiritual journey. A journey of joyous potential filled with dancing, soaring, and diving, into the unfathomable mystery of being. To experience the freedom and ease in flying requires mastery of a restless mind, and of emotion, grounded in awareness of our spiritual nature and the radiant essence of unending Love. To develop the necessary skill requires one to focus full attention of all faculties on the activity. Eye-hand coordination with mind-body presence all responding in sync to the changing flows of the wind. Any resistance, clinging, or holding back is released in the complete acceptance of surrender to “what is” in the moment. To feel the sun, smell the ocean, see the vivid sights as well as the unseen, hear the sounds amid stillness, and experience the vibrant energy of life. Any distinctions between the flyer and the kite disappear as they become one and the same. A harmonious working towards the good of all life, “the song that beautifies all, from age to age it renews.” Amen.

Thanks for sharing a little from your personal life, Diana. In a way, it seems to me that your life has come full circle, returning to your childhood home to become caregiver to the parents who cared for you in early life. The gift of Love unending.
Can you tell that I am reading the “Power of Now” for the second time in a week? This book reveals the wisdom and spiritual principles from all traditions without the concrete form and naming of religion. Although, I have been a disciple on a spiritual path for a long time, these teachings resonate so clearly for me. Perhaps, it is the readiness factor, ready to let go my resistance.
