Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

Like any big contest, the day after any national presidential election can bring strong feelings one way or another. These feelings will depend, for you, on how invested you felt in the victory of any one candidate.
The thing that has concerned me most about this election has been the degree to which so many people seemed fearful. I heard many describe their worries that if one candidate or the other was victorious terrible things would happen.
Our American system of government, more than any in the world, has established a brilliant set of checks and balances to minimize the abuse of power. But the real protection against fear does not lie in laws, votes or political decisions. The real hope lies in living love not fear.
I hope this day will bring some sense of peace for you as you contemplate the option we all have to choose love.

Thank you for this balancing word of encouragement this morning. The future is as bright as we choose to make it, no matter which candidate would have been the victor.

Not the least of the things we can all agree on as a nation of loving people, is the joy of this historic moment for civil rights. We have come so far in such a short time:
    I, Too, Sing America
    by Langston Hughes
    I, too, sing America.
    I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
    When company comes,
    But I laugh,
    And eat well,
    And grow strong.
    Tomorrow,
    I’ll be at the table
    When company comes.
    Nobody’ll dare
    Say to me,
    “Eat in the kitchen,”
    Then.
    Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
    And be ashamed–
    I, too, am America.

Today is certainly a historic day for our country as Obama offers a message of renewed hope for many. I pray that the monumental challenges that are looming over our country will help us put divisive politics aside so we might come together as one unified country.
Perhaps I am taking a major detour from today’s topic but it seems to me that the Love you often speak of in these pages is so counter cultural to our society. Romantic love is portrayed in movies, song, and novels as special love. Yet this special kind of love is selective and can be exclusionary. The Love you so often speak of does not make distinctions and like the sun shines on everyone.
Personally, I love the old black and white movies from the thirties and forties with drama or comedies about the quest for true love. For the sake of true love, one would risk all and pay any price. Yet as I write this, I must confess that I feel a bit befuddled as I realize true love might require one to lay down ones life for love. Perhaps the love you speak of is not so different from romantic love but rather than loving only a chosen one in this way we share that kind of impassioned love for the sake of all humankind.
