"A crisis is a terrible thing to waste." – NPR commentator

Everyone is always telling us how much we can learn in hard times. Of course, none of wants to endure the pain of this period with so many out of work, losing their homes, and having their cars repossessed.
Where's the learning for caregivers? What do you think?

The patients we serve are experiencing their own crisis. We often lose touch with that when we are too comfortable. I am not wishing a crisis on any of us, yet it helps us reprioritize and offers the opportunity to be in touch with our empathic selves once again.

They say history repeats itself; with the onset of the great depression of 1929, President Roosevelt and congress enacted safeguards to prevent future transgressions and bank failures. I guess our memory was short lived with the deregulation of the 1990’s. The domino effect of this current crisis is at unimaginable magnitude. American’s are facing a decline in our standard of living that will persist for years to come. The current crisis is hitting the core of our communities.
In times of difficulty and crisis opportunities present as well. We can awaken to what is important in life and reorder our priorities. We can embrace a simpler lifestyle and way of being. For those of us fortunate enough to be employed, we can reach out to those in need and ask how may we be of help? Can our country find ways to support one another rather than point fingers and blame? Can Love overcome fear?

    Day 74
In continuing my reflections this w/e and feeling overwhelmed by the immensity of difficulties we face, I keep coming back to Mother Teresa’s wisdom, ” We must do small things for one another with great Love.” What a simple but profound philosophy of life. If I live my life by this rule it can only be golden.
