Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

"The bud/ stands for all things,/ even for those things that don't flower,/ for everything flowers, from within,/ of self-blessing." – Galway Kinnell

Meditate     Today, the Buddhist monk meditates his way along his inner path. The Catholic nun prays a bridge between her and God. The Wall Street trader seeks meaning in numbers flashing across the electronic ticker tape. The school teacher studies the yearning eyes of her students. What does the caregiver do?

How are you feeling just now? What has determined your present state of mind and body and spirit?

Amid all the seductive noise of the world beyond the borders of our skin, it can be very difficult to remember that all strength comes from within. We are the ones that choose whether to listen to the voice of Love and to let Love inform our every encounter.

Instead, I often let my moods move as if they were subject to the weather. I leave the question of my happiness up to the whims of how I am treated by others, whether the sun is shinning, whether my favorite team wins, whether I get good news or bad from the the world.

The news that matters comes from inside. If we can learn to let Love shape our world view all of our encounters will be fulfilling. This does not, of course, mean that all will be happy. Instead, it means that our lives will be infused with the rich spectrum of Love's light.

What matters most lies within. Our "within" determines how we meet the world.

We don't need to retreat from the world in order to engage Love's energy. Instead, as we encounter the needs of those before us, we can let our fear fall away so that Love can find a pathway through us to others. As Love passes through the bud that lives within each of us, it nourishes what matters most – the garden that lies within.

I believe that thru my Scheduler God has provided a list of patients, potential sacred encounters for me today, each day. I feel my ministry and His work for my is not only to provide the care my nursing license allows but each visit is an opportunity for me to stop and be present with that patient. I try to allow the Holy Spirit to guide me to the nonvisible needs that each patient has. I say these thing so humbly. It took me a long time to believe although I may not be worthy of it, God uses me everyday and I try to be obedient. How do I feel today hopeful, that God’s words will fall upon each patient. That I will be His conduit today. God Bless you all and the site

I know in my heart of hearts that the wisdom of today’s message is true… but still, tap, tap….tap, tap, tap…
It is hard to maintain balance in this world with the many demands/ expectations we place on ourselves and others. I appreciate your perspective to allow Love to inform our being and shape our encounters. This reminds me of Rumi’s encouraging poem, “The Guest House.” May we offer acceptance and Love to our (unwanted ) guests.
    The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
    Every morning a new arrival.
    A joy, a depression, a meanness,
    some momentary awareness comes
    as an unexpected visitor.
    Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
    who violently sweep your house
    empty of its furniture,
    still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
    for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
    and invite them in.
    Be grateful for whoever comes,
    because each has been sent
    as a guide from beyond.

How true that our moods can often drive our being/behavior. While I hope daily that all goes well, sometimes I jump at every little thing that goes wrong. Even to the point of asking God is there something I need to address/learn from this “thing”…hmmmp!
Rather, I should recognize that we can’t have the day go the way we want; we can however be prepared to respond in the right ways to deal with the obstacles and get results.
Thank you for reminding me of the power of my inner strength and the ability to “let Love win the war”…
