A Pilgrim’s Prayer by Sr. Joyce Rupp

 

God of our life, create in us the heart of a pilgrim.

There is a part of us that fights letting go.

Do not allow us to become so rooted or so accustomed to our daily tasks

and inner securities, that we miss your voice

calling us to greater growth and deeper maturity in faith.

God of the journey, I know you are near.

Grant us the courage to change,

whether that change is an inner or outer one.

Deepen our awareness of your faithful presence

And bless our pilgrim hearts

    Liz, Your watercolor is beautiful and peaceful, inviting us to soar above life’s daily distractions that weigh us down. Sr. Joyce’s poem reminds us that we are pilgrims on a journey toward our first love and that we must often pause, become still…and listen.

    What a way to begin the journey of Holy Week, Liz. With a pilgrim’s heart I move into the Mystery, Wonder, Gift and Love of this week so that my heart may be transformed by the New Life of Easter. Like your painting invites us, may we soar into the heights of the immensity of such deep and self giving Love.

    I have always equated pilgrim or pilgrimage with traveling. This could be traveling to a certain place or to a specific end that holds meaning. Looking more closely into it, I feel it involves not just the physical traveling but the journey, the experience, and the changes that goes along with it. I pray that I stay strong and continue to follow-on the journey.
