Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

We all have to find what best fosters the flowers of our humanity in this life and dedicate ourselves to that.                        –Joseph Campbell

Rose_2_1 In 1970, I aimed a camera at a purple flower and snapped the shutter. I thought the photo was pretty good. It wasn’t. The picture was as ordinary and plastic looking as a fake smile. Eleven years and thousands of photos later, I took the picture you see here. Across those years of looking, I came to see in a different way…

Find five minutes now. Better yet, find twenty. Within the quiet of closed eyes, can you see the flowers of your humanity blooming?  Had you forgotten they were there? If you nurture these flowers every day, will it help them to grow so that they bloom without as well as within?

Find a quiet place within.

Close your eyes.

Let the world go.

Listen to the rhythm of your breath.

In the dark of closed eyes, watch

the flowers of your humanity

bloom in your heart.

Rest.

When we make time to appreciate the intricacies of creation, the dew resting on the rose, the sparkle in your child’s eyes, we are truly living.

I don’t know what your first photo looked like, but this one is very fine. Thanks for setting this up so visitors to your site can click on the photo and see it enlarged. The image brightened my day.
