Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

Part of the reason religious rituals were established was to help engage believers in the practice of love in the context of community. Some practices are approached resentfully as chores. Others may approach rituals with joy. The daily ritual that helps me the most is thirty minutes of running followed by twenty minutes of meditation. How about you?
Do daily rituals succeed in advancing loving care?
What are daily practices you engage that help you stay focused on Love?

Entering into ritual, we connect the ancient past to our present experience. As an alter server I enter into the ritual of mass with my entire being. As we prosess forward towards the alter I lose myself in the sacred dance of prayer. Each word recited, each song of praise sung, and each pause in silence is offered with reverence. All movement is purposeful and steeped in symbolism and meaning. A communal prayer of Love unfolds and expands exponentially because it is shared.

I log on to the Journal of Sacred Work. 🙂 I don’t do it at the same time every day, though, so it may not be a true ritual.

Jan, as I read your comment I find myself smiling! The Journal is a daily ritual that enriches my spirit, stimulates my thinking, challenges my perceptions, and nourishes my heart and soul. I am grateful for the many gifts offered so generously and for the blessings of friends found here in this place.

Purposeful daily rituals can advance loving care. Those that help me the most are the most basic of getting ready for work. Stretching out of bed, hot shower, fragrant soap, application of makeup. Somehow, all of this helps me transform from the sleepy foggy headed girl into the ready-to-face-the-day woman. Reading the journal, and other poety are also important rituals that help with presence.

Thanks to Liz who keeps reminding me of this wonderful site I have been touched by the entries you have made. It’s amazing how little routines have become meaningful rituals for me when I entered into them with purpose and concentration. My early daily ritual is the first cup of coffee which I take to the prayer room and there God and I start our day together – then I have the strength and joy as well as assurance of presence for whatever follows.
