Friday Open Forum: The Quality of the Day

   Thoreau’s lines give us the chance to consider how we may affect the quality of the day through our thoughts and actions. Each of us has the opportunity to illuminate beauty for others by how we awaken Love. Consider how Thoreau (left – 1817-1862) has affected the thoughts of so many through his beautiful and provocative journal, Walden – Life in the Woods and through his marvelous treatise: Civil Disobedience.

    The quality of the day hast to do with choosing to be proactive vs. reactive. Today I sit quietly in my office for a few minutes, finding some place of peace. I will have a meditation time in a little while. Both of these practices allow me to refresh my spirit so that I can engage gracefully and lovingly with my colleagues and family throughout the remainder of the day. Valuing each day as a gift is one of my guiding principles, so that no matter what happens during the day, at the end of it I can rest in gratitude for having lived it, and maybe had a part in making someone else’s day a better one.

    I plan on being nice to people. So far, I’ve pretty much done that today, except for one lapse.

    I agree with Karen’s comment about each day being a gift which is why I seek opportunities to have a positive impact on someone else’s life. There’s nothing more gratifying than to know you have improved someone’s life, even in the slightest way.
