
8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:
11to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah,* the Lord.
12This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.’

Father Peter recounted an unusual story of peace during last nights Christmas Eve homily. The year was 1914, the time was WWI, the setting Belgium. A truce began on Christmas Eve when German soldiers began decorating the area around their trenches by placing candles on trees and singing Silent Night. British troops responded by singing Christmas carols. Then the two sides started shouting Christmas greetings to one another. Soon the men began crossing enemy lines and exchanged gifts of cigarettes, whiskey, and chocolates.
May the peace of Christ be born in the hearts of each one of us and may Love flourish. Yes, peace on earth with good will to all. AmenLikeLike
