[Ed. note] One of our most faithful and loving caregivers and Journal writers is Liz Wessel, R.N., M.S., who works with the St. Joseph’s Health System based in Orange, California. She has composed the following prayer/poem for caregivers.
In addition, she is also the artist who created the exceptional drawing at left. In her meditation, Liz reaches out to all caregivers, knowing that each caregiver often works in the midst of grief.
Thank you, Liz, for sharing your gifts. Here is her writing:
May Love Come
In this time of grief
When night befalls
all
May Love come
In the shape of small
hands
To comfort you
In this time of
sorrow
When to feel
overwhelms
May Love come to
release you
From the depths of
sighs
And acknowledge your suffering
In this time of alone
With pain cloaked in
strange,
Numbing, incongruence
May Love come
In stillness, quiet,
silent
To offer acceptance
Of your need to
surrender
And mourn
In your time… and own
way
Waiting
Until Love
illuminates your night
Twinkles in stars of
hope
Gaze up and feel
Gentle rains falling
Touching your face,
With feather soft
kisses
Love is
Healing
You

This coming Monday, please also remember and reflect on the life and lessons of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His life can speak to us every day of the year.]
