Every caregiver knows how hard it is to rest. Many forces block the path to quiet. One of those is our inner voice that often shouts at us that we can't rest. Too many people need us. In order to serve, we need to find moments of silence and do draw from that silence the energy to live Love. Turn off the cell phone for five minutes. Turn your back on the computer. Close the door to the world so you may find a few moments to restore your spirit.
The Lap of Silence
Let yourself fall
silent.
The work will wait.
The people will live.
The traffic will swim its
desperate strokes without you.
This is your time to collapse
into the lap of silence.
Curl in the quilted corner
that needs you.
The silence loves your
company.
Breathe the song
of your center.
Hear the air sway,
the hammock swing.
The sea’s torso swells like yours,
sighing with the moon’s tides.
Ride, this current of quiet
into rest.
