Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

Marcus-stone-daydreams   When my sister Martha, a caregiver at The Toledo Hospital, is feeling sick herself (or just bored) she likes to transport herself to her favorite place. Through the magic of daydreams, she finds herself in La Jolla, California, gazing out at the gorgeous Pacific as he rises towards the shore.

Important as it is to be fully present, we all enjoy the occasional refuge daydreams provide. One of my favorite poets, Robert Bly, describes this remarkably in the opening stanza of "Night."

If I think of a horse wandering about sleeplessly/ All night on this short grass covered with moonlight,/ I feel a joy,/ as if I had thought of a pirate ship ploughing through dark flowers.

What are the daydreams that bring you comfort amid your harried life as a caregiver?

Marvelous painting and exquisite poem, thanks for sharing…I guess for me, it is more of a feeling than a place. I share this recent daydream… I experienced a pleasant sensation as images began to flow through my mind of a woman with light natural movements, completely at ease, without a wisp of self-conscious worry. A rhythmic stream of idle conversation, steeped in the warmth of sunlight within the peaceful glow of life.
My daydreams take me to natural places, meadows, country roads, the sea, where there is a peace filled quiet in nature. No pressures to do, no guilt about things one should do, have to do, a complete freedom to be present in the joy of the moment. A childlike feeling of Love.

I normally never daydream therefore I enjoyed reading this posting, because it allowed me to do so for a moment.
For some reason I think of a rainy day while my entire family is home with the fire place on. This thought brings me comfort and a sense of completeness.
