Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

"Thou who hast given so much to me, give one thing more – a grateful heart." -Don Schlosser

Delight. Just hearing the word brings a lovely kind of energy, doesn't it? Imagine living in the arms of delight each day.

Pool of light 1   One way in which we fall into her lap is through the magic of gratitude. I have often wondered why I forget this message so often – especially since we in America are in the midst of celebrating Thanksgiving.

For example, a friend of mine asked me recently if I felt loved by nature. Never having considered this, I couldn't answer right away.

If I were truly grateful for nature I would feel her embrace, wouldn't I? Why wasn't I in touch with that?

The very question has led me down the forest path to delight. I find myself beginning to receive a gift which was always there, but which I had never unwrapped. Of course, that gift is available to us all. Perhaps, you can feel it in the photograph I took recently that shows the sun wrapping itself around an oak.

Love holds us as close as we will allow ourselves to be held.  Love never turns us away. The question is whether we will accept the continuous offer Love extends.

As we approach Thanksgiving, what worries circle your heart? Psychologists tell us to be wary of expecting too much at the holidays. "Don't over-plan for everybody else," they warn. "Don't try to solve interpersonal issues during the holidays."

Now we know what we are not supposed to do, what are we to do? What about savoring our friends and family as well as the great food? What about replacing old resentments and irritations with delight in the company Thanksgiving provides?

Meanwhile, outside the halls of hospitals, hospices and nursing homes, nature breathes the aroma of life. Beyond the dining room, the woods, the lakes, the gardens, the sea all offer relief, refreshment, and Love's boundless energy.

Do you experience delight in Nature's gifts? Do you feel loved by her? Do you feel delight right now, not because you are supposed to, but because the word offers you its own special energy?

Love holds us as close as we will allow her. And when we let Love speak to us, a rich delight arrives.

These are lovely mysteries to delight ones soul. I carry these questions with me today in heightened awareness.
    Mysteries, Yes
Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous
    to be understood.
How grass can be nourishing in the
    mouths of the lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever
    in allegiance with gravity
while we ourselves dream of rising.
How two hands touch and the bonds
    will never be broken.
How people come, from delight or the
    scars of damage,
to the comfort of a poem.
Let me keep my distance, always, from those
who think they have the answers.
Let me keep company always with those who say
    “Look!” and laugh in astonishment,
    and bow their heads.
    ~Mary Oliver.

Delight in everything as it is to have joy in my heart, His joy is my strength. As I have experienced, too much expectations at the holidays, or to any day for that matter could diminished the joy once my high hopes aren’t met. To delight as we prepare, as we wait as it unfold, with welcoming hearts open to the differences in store. It brings peaceful and harmonious times, pleasures away from the pressures we once set. It could be a perfect day, a gift, the present we all can have. I may have less of what I used to have materially, but with grateful heart, richly blessed of what really matters most I can freely share everyday as we celebrate life.

Nature is the one place I always find solace. No matter what is going on inside my heart, I step outside and breathe, and am immediately better. Thank you for the idea of living in the arms of delight each day.

When the sun first touches my face, I feel Nature’s caress. When the light bathes me as I drive, I know that I am loved by God and the bounties of the Earth. I even feel special, as if I am the only one to receive this gift, as I take it very personally each day I drive away from my home to work.
This holiday is one that will not overwhelm me. I have dealt with many personal challenges in the past month, and I can say that I now live day-to-day. I will not stress, not over-think what has clearly been laid out before me. So, I will await the sun, or the rain drops and embrace each day that waits to greet me…

Victoria – what a gift you gave all of us with your personal reflection: “When the light bathes me as I drive, I know that I am loved by God and the bounties of the Earth.” How wise you are to know how to receive Love.

Erie, your response brought such a smile to my face. And, I am truly blessed to see each day – whether I am bathed in the sunlight, the grey flannel blanket, or the shower that awaits me.
Life is truly too short to not embrace…V
