After all, "Who doesn't like poems." ~Ms. Emily Irby

Amid the chaos and the noise, spring blossoms in fragrant remembrance, awakens new life, sings with heart. Daylight lingers hoping we might take notice. She longs to coax us from the neon lights and cement walls into communion with her enchanting beauty. She calls to us, “Don’t pass me by, join the rhythm of my turning, come dance with me!”

Is it any surprise that April is National Poetry month?  Poetry reveals a world of intimacy and passion in changing hues of light and shadow and bold splashes of color,  once invisible melodies  become our closest friends.

On April 14, all around our nation, in our schools, libraries and workplaces, people will be celebrating a Poem in Your Pocket Day. I hope you will participate! It's simple, just pick your favorite poem to fold in your pocket. Create some of your own fun capers and watch the flowering  of  smiles  grow.

After all, said the lovely young poet, Ms. Emily Irby, "Who doesn't like poems?"

Please share your favorite poem with us Visit www.poets.org to sign up for “a poem a day” e-mail, in commemoration of National Poetry month!

Thank you Liz! Feeling the lightness of spring in spite of this morning’s frost in Healdsburg! sharing a poem I wrote in 1977 after a trip with one of my sons and the dog to the eastern NE coast of the Atlantic–I hope it contributes to that feeling of renewal of life that spring brings –
“To The Ocean with Matthew and Shanti”
I’ve been to the ocean to fly a kite
    to cleanse my soul
to romp in the sand and flirt with the surf
to explore the rocks and tidal pools
to gauk at the people who gauk at you
    to screech with the seagulls
    to gather treasures
to jump and dance and run
to sit and be quiet in the warmth of the sun

Thank you, Liz and Thank you Maria.
I wish it were true that everyone liked poems. I find that most people turn away when they see words aligned in poetic formats.
But, who could not like a poem as lovely as Marias?

Thank you Liz – one of my favourites poets is the Indian Tagore. Part of his poem, Love’s Question follows:
    And is this all true,
    My ever-loving friend?
That the lightning flash of the light in my eyes
Makes the clouds in your heart explode and blaze,
    Is this true?
Enjoy the poems in your heart.

Thank you dear friends for sharing the poems of your heart…with me. I hope to share some with you during this special month devoted to poetry.
I met with a person who is part of my family yesterday. She shared some observations with me, about me. She offered her observations with concern, love and a question…not a knowing. That enabled me to take in what she offered with gratitude but also with a heart of unknowing. Something to contemplate.
My daily prayer is that I might awaken. I think God sent an angel to gently help with the process.
So I realize that spring is not all about being giddy in Love and frivolous. I guess this is how I imagine myself to be but with awakening comes a sadness and joy simultaneously effervescing up from my being. I think it helps to breathe trough my discomfort, which will come again tomorrow and the day after that.
So, I am going to get about my spring cleaning…
I share with you an excerpt from one of my favorite poems by e.e. cummings called,
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

how beautiful God is painting with wild flowers at the hillsides, reminding us, a picture perfect Creator who provides us with everything we need……..
    Come, come whoever you are.
    Wonderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
    It doesn’t matter
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow a thousand times
Come, yet again, come, come…. RUMI
