Days 133-134 Love and Fear

Love and fear.

The poem, “Love and Fear” is by the poet Michael Leunig, from the book “A Common Prayer,” published by Harper Collins.

    This was a beautiful video. Thanks for sharing Liz. I am just back from spreading my husband’s ashes in the middle of the mountains outside Lynchburg, VA. It was so different than I thought it would be. We went far off the beaten path to a place where a very small bridge spanned a quickly running creek over small rocks and larger ones. When we got there, hundreds of butterflies flew right on top of the bridge. The moment was magical. I think that’s what this video tells us; the most magical things can occur in the least likely places. To be present in every moment, we are less likely to miss them.

    I see our human life as the tight bud and death as the blossoming back into spirit, a type of birthing, just as when we entered this world. Here we learn to overcome fear, so the choice is always LOVE.

    Inspirational and inspiring! Love and hope in action. Thank you for the call to Life and to Live. Reminds me of the words in the Gospel of today, “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) Thanks for your sharing Liz and the reminder from our poet (and cartoonist), there are only two words: Love and Fear.

    LiZ: thank you for this inspirational video. It is very comforting to know that we come to earth from the very Source of Life and Love. In this earthly journey He also reminds us “Fear not I am with thee” and gives us the strength to go on. I can see clearly that death is part of life, a cycle and we finally return to the Source Love and Light.

    Thank you Bobbye for sharing your miraculous experience. How symbolic for butterflies to be near, and no less than hundreds! Transformation and grace! I send my love to you. Thanks too Maria, Sr. Maureen and Suan for sharing your insights and supporting this Journal with your enriching responses. What impresses me most about this powerful video is that it completely reflects the teachings of Radical Loving Care. Although this is a Buddhist perspective I love that it mirrors a Christian one as well. We are much more Ecumenical than we realize.

    Yes we do respond either in love or fear… when my husband received the news of his biopsied thyroid nodules being positive of cancer cells … there was this initial fear in him but not as much as in me. His embracing what was given with positive outlook of things… eased my fear of how this Big C will influence our lives. Love took over, whatever may come as he follows what he felt he’s at peace made it clearer to me. There is nothing to fear, nothing at all.

    This weekend as lead supervisor in a home health environment I fielded calls from both unhappy, stressed patients and families who angrily wanted me to “fix” things in ways that seemed impossible to me, and calls from grateful patients and family members who appreciated all that I and my colleagues are doing. I tried to be equally present for both. I appreciate the perspective of choosing between love and fear. Consciously asking to stay grounded in God’s love helps me to stay away from fear that I won’t be there well enough for those in need. Liz, I so enjoy seeing your beautiful mandalas.
