Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

You may have seen the following lines from one of the many gorgeous poems that have come down to us through the centuries from the beautiful heart of Hafiz: "Your love has an eloquent tone./ The sky and I want to hear it."

So few of us have enough confidence in the eloquence of our tone to be truly willing to share it. Instead, we often feel we have to adopt the voice of someone else – to offer the world what we think they want to hear rather than to sing with our truest song. Worse, we may choose a kind of silence that blocks others from receiving our gifts.

Hafiz, of course, is not referring to the tone of our actual voices but to our ability to express any of our gifts in any way we might choose. This is the opportunity caregivers have each day and night.

Every time you decide to listen to the pain of another, you have spoken with the voice of your sacred presence. Every time you choose to reach beyond your own needs to meet the needs of another,  your love has found its most"eloquent tone." Every moment you spend singing the truest song in your heart  you are expressing the voice of God.

Love has the pitch and timbre of truth, faith and compassion. When we live this Love, we are always in tune.

Search today for your most eloquent voice. Live this Love and the world will be glad for it.

Yes. Thank you. He is the cello, she is the violin, I am the oboe, we are the orchestra. “Love has the pitch and timbre of truth, faith and compassion”-reason enough to rise.

As I finished reading this post, I looked up out of the window and there were two birds sitting on a wire basking in the sun. Imagine all of the varied birdsongs around the world…all so unique…each little bird so beautiful and precious. Do you remember that song, “All of God’s children have a place in the choir. Some sing low and some sing higher…”? We sound so much better when we sing together!

    I’m speechless!
What an authentically and beautifully stated statement about the beauty of authenticity.
It’s going to take me a while to come down from there!

How true Erie, I find that my fear-based thinking can get the best of me. I can worry about so many things… I remind myself that are only two choices; love and fear. Still worry can be a powerful force that disrupts my equilibrium and distorts my perceptions. What helps restore my balance is remembering that my truth comes from that authentic place and to risk showing up with an open heart. No matter what.

I love this likening of loving actions to a beautiful, “eloquent tone.” Just like a speech of eloquence, which can rile up even the most initially uninterested audience, using one’s “truest song” can make love spread like wildfire. One barrier to this, for me, is the feeling that people don’t always care about what I do. It’s hard to stand one’s ground and speak in the same manner that demonstrates love when the outcome is seemingly unknown. What we do may or may not be recognized, but it’s important to keep it up. Thank you for sharing your own eloquence in truth, Erie.

I so love this post and have carried it with me for the past many days. It seems I wander from my true voice and tend to question its meaning and its worth from time to time.
Your sentence below brings me back home…
“Every moment you spend singing the truest song in your heart you are expressing the voice of God.”
The news and the noise of the world can confuse me and take my attention away from the voice whispering in my heart…love me, God says, by loving each other.
    Thank you Erie.

When we are in tune… do we really feel what another may feel? most likely so,.. for the gift of sensitivity I thank you Lord, may my truest response be, is what you want me to impart… to freely give my all… my love is your Love.
