"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude

of those who have lighted the flame within us."

Thanksgiving Day Prayer
by Walter Rauschenbusch (1861–1918)

For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

I have a lot to be thankful for this year and your prayer states why I now live in a landscape with nature’s beauty and bounty surrounding me, and where my family and friends can come to gather. To be able to do so, I am thankful for so many factors and people who came into my life.
I have noticed of late, the the energy of gratitude. We can say the word, but do we always feel it. I had a little experience with this recently, when I found my self on a down week, fed up, cranky, impatient, and intolerant of people, the job, the commute to work, politics and all the little things that get blown up out of proportion when one is in that mode of unease. Then the little word “gratitude” popped into my head, so I meditated on the word, then I meditated on the feeling of the word, then I meditated on the energy of the word and found my self within the vibration of GRATITUDE. When that happened all the crankiness and annoyances fell away as insignificant! I also realized that my unease was a catalyst to growth which lead to the healing of my moods and the burning up of old stuff.
The feeling of gratitude opens a path to the heart and from the heart we can shine our light to the world in Thank-fullness. It seems to me that Thanksgiving is arriving at precisely the perfect moment in this climate of change for 2011!

Here in the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit we are not fortunate enough to have the national celebration of Thanksgiving like you, our friends in the USA and Canada. There is so much richness in the national day, opportunity to pause and reflect, to express gratitude as well as join together with family. As I remember my friends in the USA I would like to thank you for the many blessings that have come through you. Special appreciation to Liz for her faithfulness, her inspiration and her words of hope and comfort. Happy Thanksgiving Day.
