Journal of Sacred Work

Caregivers have superpowers! Radical Loving Care illuminates the divine truth that caregiving is not just a job. It is Sacred Work.

About

ButterfliesAs weekend contributor to the Journal of Sacred Work, I see this as an opportunity to focus caregivers' attention towards self-care.

Chances are it has been a busy stress-filled week. Healthcare reform coupled with a difficult economy is driving significant change.  Do more with less and achieve better quality outcomes; piece of cake, eh?

Our work world is in the midst of a tremendous transformation and we can never go back to the way it was. It is an awkward in between stage. Things are not what they were nor have we recreated ourselves anew. It's an uncomfortable and painful time as a metamorphosis takes place. Theorist, Kurt Lewin provides the apt analogy of an ice cube that has melted and not yet re-solidified.  Anxiety and worry often characterize this time of uncertainty.

Author, Judy Brooks cautions, "change is not our enemy"  but rather presents openings for personal growth, discovery and creativity. Better yet, Candace Nagle has shared with Journal readers that change can be a catalyst for deepening relationships with colleagues and renewed solidarity through loving support of one another.

"Love and fear represent two different lenses through which to view the world. The one I choose to use will determine what I think I see." -From CIM, offered by M. Williamson

Choose Love.

As we enter into this sacred Sabbath, may you experience rest in the peace of acceptance and Another Way.

Your dancing butterflies in your painting bring peace enough. The video Another Way is surprisingly moving. The sisters have found peace by learning being. They are most powerful when they talk not about “happiness” but about being and appreciation and acceptance. I hope readers will take the 8 minutes to watch this moving tribute to life. Thank you, Liz.

“We are our grandmothers’ prayers, we are our grandfathers’ dreamings…” Thank you, Liz, for the beautiful video. Each of those women were glowing with the beauty of their souls. When the woman spoke about doing her little bit and not joining despair, I thought about how important that is while we go through our transformation and how it is a moment by moment effort. I go to despair and then I come back to hope. Often what guides me back to hope is the support of you and Brenda and all of the wonderful people who keep on believing in our mission. When I read your offering for today I was reminded of this line from a chant: “Forms change and the circle of life remains.” What is good and true will always be here. Like the woman who bent and so lovingly touched the Earth in her walking meditation, we can, when all looks crazy around us, still trust the solidity of our values. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us.

Liz, your painting, your words, your video were bursting with Life, with energy, with hope, with the call to be all that we are meant to be. May we go into this new week refreshed and encouraged.

thank you Liz for the reminder on focusing on our self-care… being burned-out will come no more… as we spend more time enjoying the present and Presence at all times. It is a delightful privilege, fullness of joy and peace.
