Days 130-131 Walking in Unity

Note: Shared by Liz Sorensen Wessel. On April 29th over 200,000 people marched outside the White House to protest the devastating rollbacks of Obama’s Clean Power Plan. All around the country over 370 sister marches unfolded as people walked in solidarity to object to the devastating setbacks on the protections of our environment.

This protest came just a week after the March for Science to express concerns over the administrations proposed cuts to scientific studies and to promote facts and research. There are skeptics who do not believe that climate change is real. As you know the budget of the Environmental Protection Agency has been slashed by one third. The agency has been ordered to remove information on climate change from their website. These changes are incomprehensible to say the least.

Yet being in community with others for a common good was inspirational and the energy was so positive. A diverse group of people walking in unity; men women and children. Regardless, of one’s political views I now realize how important it is to become involved, to participate and to give voice to what you believe in, what really matters. We have a great deal at stake.

Thanks for posting this critical message. I am angry that Trump has deigned to take such ill-advised actions against our environment! We all are the poorer for it and “less clean” as we go about our daily lives– together in our humanity, but not in our outlook toward protecting the planet Earth we share.
To ignore the vast and largely wise storehouse of environmental knowledge and information, is to literally spit at Science, and all it has done and can do for our human race. It’s one thing, to argue about parties and policies; it is quite another, to disavow and cripple so many years of progress toward “cleaning up” all that we, collectively, have sullied and spoiled in our world.
But to express our collective disdain is not enough, no it’s only a beginning, though an important one. We must continue to think clearly: “the King has no clothes!” He is dressed only in ignorance and malfeasance! He is narcissistically unable to act with good sense, dignity, and a willingness to a least compromise, on matters of the first magnitude: clean water, air, food, and the protection of all animal species. Mount up rallies–yes! Let his reign continue? No!
We people, of a like mind on this huge issue, must band together: phone, email, shout out to our State and federal representatives, and ask them to vote against such a travesty of nature. I say the “king must go!”, non-violently, but within the opportunities our Constitution provides: non-stop protest, enlightened non support of Trump presidency, and yes, for me, prayers to God for fortitude, hope, and persistence as we envision our planet Earth, revived, healing, and continuing to house us all.

Some of us are old enough to remember how bad the smog was in the United States before there was an EPA. We grew up and have had children and they have had children. Each generation enjoying better air and less potential for pesticides entering their drinking water. Now the fight begins again. We have won in the past and we will be successful again.
Perhaps we need to think about changing the name of the Environmental Protection Agency to the Mother Earth and Her Children Protection Agency. A politician would think more than twice about a headline that includes their name and the words “…wants to kill Mother Earth and Her Children”.
