Comes now a sudden turn

Into soft surprise.

Some whisper in the forest

That draws my eye’s energy.

“Over there,” the oak leaves sigh,

“Crossover summer’s creek.”

As the grit & glass clear from eyes

Where they needed to be,

Where blood must be shed

By men like me who need

To fight before we can rest,

I crossover, kneel on sharp rock,

Tear my torn body through thorn

Bushes, stare down a copperhead.

“Raise your eyes,” the snake spits.

Before me a secret path gestures.

A curved shape sits in a meadow.

Peace. Arms open.

Her gentle smile. Her strength.

I so love this image of a child exploring some new delight with a sense of wonder and leaving a trail of stars in her wake…then listening and hearing the intonations and expressiveness of your voice made those words jump off the page and come alive for me as I was drawn into this magical world… your poem expresses so much about your heroes journey, Erie, about life about the pain and exquisite beauty that is uniquely part of each person’s journey. Marvelous mix of artistic medium that harmonizes as a most beautiful aria.

You are just so wonderful to write this kind thoughts, Liz. From the depths of my heart I thank you for the way you appreciate and affirm the heroes journey, art, my voice & poetry and the picture of my youngest granddaughter. Blessings and love to you.

Thank you so much for being open enough to feel “a chill down” your spine, dear Terry. So amazing that we two cousins both love poetry and both write it. All too rare a thing in the American population.
