The Work of Christmas

When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among others,
To make music in the heart.

By Howard Thurman

Let us find ways to make music in the heart, this is the hope of Christmas.

How very true Liz and even more so as we strive to be witnesses of love, hope and joy in our world today. Your mandala is powerful and inspiring, drawing me into the depths of the Mystery that is Christmas, our God, cradled, held and loved.

This sweet poem contains such a lovely surprised turn in the middle and I love that you have shared it with us. As if to say, the real work of Christianity begins after we leave church, after we pray, after we promise God we will use our gifts well, after we promise to love…
Your artwork is gorgeous!! As if looking through a window at a perfect Christmas scene. Thank you.

“We Need a Little Christmas” (a song from the musical “Mame”). The Jerry Herman song is sung by the title character after the financial crash of 1929 in an attempt tp cheer up those around her. A Christmas spirit pick me up. Not unlike the movie “Elf” in which Santa Claus needs help in raising Christmas spirit.
The Christmas Star is almost here. Do not let the “Christmas Carol” of Dickens lore become our nightmare. Bring the past of good cheer forward. Abolish the bleak winter with the our Christmas spirit of Love.
    “God bless us, every one!”
Thank you Liz for your thoughts and your artwork…

Thank you, Erie I so appreciate how you have interpreted the meaning of Thurman’s poem, YES! I am also profoundly grateful for your encouragement that you have offered through the years to express Love through art.

Yes, “God bless us everyone. I agree Jolyon, music can lift our spirits. Its funny but I was on facetiming with my granddaughter Starling the other night and I’m not sure how this came about but I wound up playing the Gene Kelly video “I’m singing in the Rain” while singing rather badly. I enjoyed making her laugh as well as introducing her to such a great artist as Kelly.
It helped raise our spirits as our beloved Brandy, the sweetest most loving companion; a Labrador retriever died last week. Now we will focus on cherishing our memories.
