How often it is the unknown gesture, the kind thought, a text message of encouragement, presence of support in the quiet and stillness, a phone call, a word, a hug; all powerful; healing comforting, strengthening, energising.
I give thanks to the unsung heroes who have been there for me.
    Thank you Liz.

Note: This was shared on FB by my friend Cheri and I am reposting it here for JSW readers. Liz
“I had a similar experience when my dad was dying. It was at St. Joseph, but before I worked there. I didn’t live close at that time and would wake in the dark each day to pick up my mom and spend a long day into night with her at my father’s bedside. One day near the end, I walked outside and ended up sitting at one of those picnic tables that used to be in front of the Center for Spiritual Development. I put my head in my hands and and began to cry uncontrollably from sheer exhaustion and because I couldn’t imagine life without my daddy. One of the sisters appeared out of thin air (they do that sometimes you know) and simply took my hand and sat with me… until my strength returned. I knew then that I want to work there and soon after, left my job at another healthcare facility to learn how to care for others as compassionately as I was cared for. The odd thing is, I never saw that sister again, and no one that I asked knew who she was…”

What a beautiful encounter Cheri, thank you for sharing how the Sisters presence helped to ease your pain. At rimes such as these it helps to know that we are not alone and that someone is there for us… not with words just by being by our side… It does not surprise me that you never found out who that angel of a Sister was as they are very humble women who quietly go about doing good works without seeking any attention or recognition…
