[This meditation is an expression of thanksgiving begun by Cathy Self, Senior Vice President for the Baptist Healing Trust.]
Norman Rockwell gave voice to four freedoms through his painting. One (see below) is titled "Freedom from Fear"and seems an appropriate beginning to a remembering of that for which we may feel thankful. All who visit these pages are invited to continue with your own expressions of thanksgiving.
The wind’s gentle embrace,
Rough edges of a broken shell;
The love-light in my grandson’s eyes, and
the dimple that signals outright joy in my granddaughter’s face,
A warm and welcoming home,
Sky-filled hues of scarlet, crimson, amethyst, and deepest blue,
Refuge and safety in my husband’s arms;
Heartbeat of the sea as it breaks on shore,
Hearing God walk near in the rustling grass,
Knowing with certainty the sweet aroma of mercy, grace, and Love;
Tired feet,
Busy calendars,
Cookie crumbs on my kitchen floor,
Refrains of “Amazing Grace” sung with aging voice,
Laughter carried in the air,
A fire in the fireplace and a worn, cozy comforter;
Sacred ground found in all places,
Cacophony of rain drops on my roof,
Crunchy leaves on the ground,
Snow white blossoms on a fence row,
Friendship that transcends differences,
Joy in a shared journey….
